Resident Spotlight-Anna V_HarborChase of Prince William Commons

HarborChase Senior Living is proud to highlight one of our HarborChase of Prince William Commons residents, Anna!

Anna was born in Denmark and developed a passion for painting at an early age. For over a decade, she traveled with her husband to different countries in the Middle East and Africa, giving her more inspiration to paint!

1968 -1971
Tehran, Iran | Anna attended a local art school and started painting landscapes.

1971 – 1975
Nairobi, Kenya | Anna enrolled in an English art school and concentrated on wildlife paintings.

1975 – 1980
Cairo, Egypt | Anna attended a German art school where she painted mostly landscape pictures.

1980 – 1982
Athens, Greece | Anna took lessons from a well-known Greek painter and exhibited her work at the Athens Hilton and the British Embassy.

1982 – 1989 
Horsens, Denmark | Anna moved back to Denmark and settled down in the town of Horsens. She attended Juelsminde Free Art Academy for two years, followed by two years at the Aarhus Kunst Academy. Anna began to specialize in portraits and landscape paintings using oil and acrylic. She also received many assignments to paint specific portraits and was asked to exhibit her work in several public institutions in Horsens. Anna joined the Adult Education Institute as a teacher in oil and acrylic painting, where she was asked to exhibit the works of her students, as well as her own work at City Hall in Horsens.

Sharing Her Talents with Others

In 1989, Anna moved to Aquia Harbor in Stafford County, Virginia, and taught oil and acrylic painting at the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (an affiliate of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond) for 14 years. 

Anna has had numerous exhibitions in the Greater Washington area, including:

  • Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (FCCA) | Fredericksburg, VA 
  • Annual Art Festival in Hurkamp Park | Fredericksburg, VA
  • Old Town Gallery & Gold Star Emporium
  • Colonial Downs Racetrack Art Exhibition | New Kent, VA
  • The 43rd – 50th Fredericksburg Fine Art Exhibition | Fredericksburg, VA
  • Millers Fine Art Gallery | Occoquan, Virginia

Anna's Awards & AccomplishmentsAnna Verdichs Painting

  • 1996: Honorable mention at the Fredericksburg Fine Art Exhibition and second place oil painting winner at the same event in 1999 and 2000.

  • 1997: Second place at FCCA’s Garden Show where she competed against 200 other painting submissions.

  • 1997: One of 60 artists out of 1,000 selected to exhibit at the Colonial Downs Racetrack Art Exhibition.

  • 1999: Invited by the Colonial Down Racetrack to exhibit her paintings in the Jockey Club for a five-month period.

  • 2001: A regular participant in the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts’ Holiday Show, Anna Verdich and Her Students exhibition of 54 oil and acrylic paintings were exhibited at the Atrium and Theater of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library. The exhibition was repeated in 2002.

  • 2002: Six oil paintings were exhibited at the Grand Opening of the Home Design Center in Fredericksburg.

  • 2002: Appointed by Westmoreland County Museum and Library to create five paintings of historical figures from American Colonial History for permanent exhibition. These paintings were consigned as part of the museum’s preparation for the 400th Anniversary of Westmoreland County and Jamestown.

  • 1993-2002: Served as Director of Education for the FCCA. Anna was a member of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts FCCA, and the former Media of Fredericksburg. For many years, she continued teaching from her home studio and working on commission, creating portraits and landscape paintings.

  • 2021: Winner of the HarborChase holiday card art contest!
