HRA Among the First Group of People to Successfully Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

VERO BEACH, Florida – January 4, 2021 – Harbor Retirement Associates has successfully completed COVID-19 vaccine clinics at several HarborChase communities for residents and associates. The clinics were completed in one day at HarborChase of Naples and Venice, Florida, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Southlake, Texas, and will return to the community in approximately one month to administer the second round of the vaccine. All residents are eligible to receive the optional vaccine. All associates are strongly encouraged to receive the vaccine in an effort to continue to combat the spread of COVID-19.

HRA associates and residents have successfully received the vaccine at four HarborChase communities in three states, without mentioning side effects. These communities received the vaccine through CVS or Walgreens pharmacies. This vaccine is administered in two doses, 28 days apart. Depending on state regulations, availability and health guidelines, individuals may receive the vaccine from either Pfizer or Moderna. Phase 1a makes the vaccine available to residents and associates upwards of six months before access to the general public.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on December 1, 2020, ACIP made recommendations on who should be offered the COVID-19 vaccination in the initial phase of the U.S. COVID-19 vaccination program while there is limited vaccine supply.

The CDC continues to state: “When a COVID-19 vaccine is authorized by the FDA and recommended by ACIP, vaccination in the initial phase of the COVID-19 vaccination program (Phase 1a) should be offered to both 1) healthcare personnel and 2) residents of long-term care communities.” HRA associates and residents are categorized as the demographic of individuals who meet the requirements to receive the initial phase of this vaccination.

HarborChase communities initially identified a taskforce who immediately conceptualized a strategy to offset the COVID-19 outbreak including how to manage the virus should any resident or associate become infected. The community exceeded recommendations provided by the CDC including social distancing, masks, increased sanitization and the use of PPE (personal protective equipment.) HRA also created the HarborChase Pledge of Love for associates to continue to exercise the same CDC recommendations outside of the workplace.
