Congratulations to Brea Isme for being selected as March Employee Spotlight for HarborChase! Brea is our Director of Memory Care at HarborChase of Long Grove.
Brea grew up in a very small family in Madison, Wisconsin. She was the middle child of three, an older sister and her younger step-brother. Both of her parents had since re-married and remained in Wisconsin. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, comes from a large family, and she enjoys all the "craziness" that accompanies the family events. Brea and her boyfriend, Arik Lebda, just expanded their little family as well. They added a new four-legged friend, named Kal-El! Brea refers to him as "the Superman of all dogs” and claims he is absolutely adorable. Kale-El is a 9-week-old Bernese Mountain Dog who will eventually transition into his role with Long Grove, the Therapy Dog for our residents!
Brea always wanted to help people. She attended college at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) where she initially studied nursing. After a few years in the program, she started to grow closer to the seniors she was working with. She decided to graduate with a degree in Community Education, where she could eventually do a handful of various jobs. She is currently planning on attending Concordia University in the spring to pursue a Master's in Gerontology. She based her career on her passion for improving the lives of seniors. She claims, "she wouldn't have it any other way."
One of Brea's life highlights, so far, was being chosen to waterski for the 2018 USA Waterski Team. That means this coming summer she will represent the United States in a World Waterski Show Tournament. It is comparable to the Olympics, but waterskiing is not technically an Olympic sport. The team chooses the top 35 water-skiers in the United States, and she made the team. Go USA!
Working with HarborChase
Brea started working at HarborChase three days before the Long Grove Grand Opening. She loves her role as the Director of Memory Care and is very knowledge on how memory deficiency affects people internally and externally. She is an advocate for the seniors and truly believes they should be living life to the fullest, every day! She wants to change the way society thinks about the senior living community. Every day she is there for the residents and family members. She is an excellent support person for members going through difficult times, and she can relate, having someone close to her in the late stages of Alzheimer’s.
Her favorite thing about working at HarborChase is the residents. She claims the residents are just her extended family. Brea said,
“I never know what they are going to say or do, but I love the ride!”
She said she is inspired by a great group of leaders and co-workers here at Long Grove. She has an Executive Director that believes in her and knows she has a bright future ahead of her. Brea is outgoing and fun to work with; she is always playing little pranks on her co-workers, so watch out! In all seriousness though, she cannot wait to grow and do anything she can to help change the senior's lives!
It is because of employees like Brea we can make a positive impact on the lives of the seniors in our HarborChase communities.
